So I finally installed Gentoo and I finally almost have a working computer. I’m currently working on a new 2.6 kernel for my machine so everything will work just a little faster – I also need ALSA, so I have to work for that.
I’m currently in love with emerge and although there have been a few little bugs in it, it’s done most everything very well. I’ve switched to gnome (for a bit anyways) and I’m pretty happy with it.
My cdrom drive and floppy are also not mapped (oh well) I’ll have to fix thoes. Some screenies when I have something good to show – the desktop background is fugly!
So today was not a whole lot of fun. No, it really wasn’t much fun at all. I spent nearly all day reading The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for Honors English next year. The book itself isn’t the greatest (far too much Britishness if you ask me) but it isn’t horrible. It’s the questions that get you, in my opinion. Personally, I don’t and won’t enjoy or maybe even read a book that I am forced to write detailed analyses of while I read it Doing so detracts from reading and enjoying that book. Oh well, I can’t tell teachers how to teach.
I also have to read another one (the title eludes me), but I am fairly certain that I won’t like it as much (from reading the synopsis.) Currently, I’m reading two somethings far more enjoyable for my own personal interest. First off is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Some may say I should be reading books above it, but the fact is I enjoy reading it and I missed out on a lot when I read it the first time in two days. Secondly, I’m finishing Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I started it as a free reading book for my last Honors English course and didn’t have time to finish. I’m almost there!
That, my friends, concludes summer reading as of yet.
I filled out Audrey’s, so now I must continue it. ( :/ )
1. Who are you?
2. Are we friends?
3. When and how did we meet?
4. Do you have a crush on me?
5. Would you kiss me?
6. Describe me in one word.
7. What was your first impression?
8. Do you still think that way about me now?
9. What reminds you of me?
10. If you could give me anything what would it be?
11. How well do you know me?
12. When’s the last time you saw me?
13. Ever wanted to tell me something but couldn’t?
14. Are you going to put this on your Xanga and see what I say about you?
So we had rehearsal yesterday night. Sure, the room was unbearably hot, but it was fun, it really was. Thanks to last night though, I have at least three blisters on my hands (ouch) that seem to be going away.
For all those who care, we also got our first piece to play. I’m fairly happy with it; not often to I get to play something classical, however, I’m not particularly fond of the song. We will be playing Quartet No. 12 in F Major by Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904). I’ve played this piece with my piano teacher before and I didn’t really like it. This time, however, might be different. Who knows. I play Marimba 3 (:/) which I believe represents the Cello and if it does, I have quite a different part than the rest of the group. I’m not bitter. I found the real version (with string players) so that we might listen to it — warning: ~6.5 MB.
EDIT: I found a partial recording of the percussion version we are playing. Listen here (~1.4 MB.)
